If you’re visiting the surfing town of San Juan, La Union but feel uncomfortable staying in a co-ed dorm-type hostel, then it’s best to get your own villa at the posh Aureo La Union in nearby San Fernando located 25 minutes away.

The Place

With over 40 villas available, guests are assured of their own private escape as every room has its own balcony with a view. Aureo caters to families and a more mature crowd. The sprawling resort glows like a beacon amidst the tranquil side of San Fernando and spans a less-crowded beach. There’s an atmosphere of openness here starting with the al fresco lobby that offers a view of the pool area. Going to the guest rooms requires a short and scenic walk that lets you take in the rest of the resort.

The People

Resort personnel are warm and friendly – something you instantly feel the moment they place their right hand over their left chest as a gesture of service.

The Rooms

There are 2 types of rooms: Deluxe and Superior. The 30sqm Deluxe room has a breathtaking view of the beach with its own private verandah where guests are encouraged to have their breakfast every morning.

The Superior rooms (slightly smaller at 28sqm) have the pool or the gazebo as its view and also comes with its own private verandah. All rooms have a work table, a tea and coffee set, a private toilet and bath, and a relaxing ambiance. Aureo will soon complete a new hotel with rooms that are more affordable yet with the same warmth and good service.

The Facilities

Aureo keeps things simple. They have the inviting pool ready for the guests to enjoy, the gazebo area with daybeds and swings for those who wish to enjoy a quiet time alone or with a loved one, and access to the beach – a wide, cream-sand beach where the waves are strong and there’s plenty of space to lay out your beach towel.

In the evening, a live acoustic band plays for guests at the dining area just beside the welcome lobby where drinks and pica pica are offered. The resort’s souvenir shop is just the right place to go to for authentic La Union pasalubong. Banquet areas are also available for those who plan to have intimate gatherings at the resort.

The cost: For a luxury resort with quality amenities, Aureo is surprisingly competitive. Rooms can fit up to 4 people and kids below 7 years old can join parents in their room for free. Accommodation comes with free breakfast – a choice of Filipino and continental breakfast best taken with a cup of their fragrant coffee. Their cheese omelette is a must!

Extras: Aureo La Union is a favorite of bikers who travel north. Aside from the warm accommodation, parking is not a problem in this resort where security is a top priority.
