Secrets Revealed: The best roadside resto in Leyte

Traveling on Leyte’s roads can be long, butt-numbing and tiring. But if you’re on your way to Canigao Island or Maasin City in Southern Leyte, make sure to stop and enjoy the culinary offerings of Kiosko Food Park along the national highway in Leyte.

Owned and managed by Rudolph John “Niño” Guerrero, this roadside restaurant in the town of Matalom, Leyte is surrounded by farmlands, streams and groves of trees – the perfect backdrop to a hearty dining experience. He said the idea of a restaurant beside the farm was started by his late father. They converted part of their farmland into the kiosk-style eatery, hence the name.

But what makes Kiosko’s diners stop and stay are its homey culinary offerings, which offer a variety of fresh seafood, meat and desserts. Start with a comforting bowl of Tinolang Isda or follow it with the scrumptious Baked Scallops or Calamares. For main dishes, their Sweet and Sour Fish is superb, and if you love crustaceans then indulge with steamed crabs or rock lobsters that goes well with Squid Ink Rice.

Enjoy your meals while inside a floating hut, where a flowing stream provides that natural, al fresco ambience. Nighttime diners are also treated to acoustic music as performed by local musicians.

“Our customers who usually come from long, tiring journeys, confess that they wanted to stay longer, not just for the food but also for the relaxation,” Niño confided.

When you feel that the trip is taking a toll on you, get off the road and give yourself a delicious break at Kiosko Food Park!
